《奇蹟的發生》所講述的是距今不遠，卻少為年輕世代所知的金門出洋故事。20世紀前半，金門出現了一個前所未有的離鄉潮，幾乎每一個金門家庭都有出洋的番客。他們遠渡重洋，為的是有一天能衣錦榮歸，光宗耀祖。但真正能夠光榮返鄉的，千人之中，不過二三。出洋歷史的起承轉合裡，充滿了個人對家庭的複雜情感與價值觀的衝突及調整。故事裡除了出洋的番客，還包括留守家鄉的人。

前後將近百年，絡繹不絕的人口流動和資源傳輸，讓金門的經濟、空間、社會都產生了巨大的變化，部分甚至在今天持續影響著金門。如果番客返鄉興建的洋樓是時代的奇蹟，那麼這些奇蹟究竟如何發生，又為何結束？他們又如何帶給當代一些啓示？《奇蹟的發生》採取「看圖說故事」的方式，透過歷史物件、訪談錄音，以及老照片作為展覽的主軸，邀您一起重新造訪這段逐漸被遺忘但與今日的我們切身相關的人性故事。展覽選擇金門規模最大的洋樓建築陳景蘭洋樓作為展出地點，希望從這裡出發，激發眾人向外發掘更多隱藏在金門聚落空間裡的出洋奇蹟。

A Miracle in Time revisits the history of the near century-long phenomenon of chain emigration of Kinmenese to the European colonies in Southeast Asia. From the turn of the 19th century to the mid-20th century, over three generations of population movement across geographic borders brought to the island unprecedented impacts on its economy, landscape, culture and society at large. Some continue to linger today. Drawing on historical photos, documents and objects, A Miracle in Time features oral histories collected specifically for the exhibit. It invites the audience to re-contextualize in a wide historical perspective the experiences of the sojourners and those left behind, as well as the legacy they jointly created. In the end, one finds in the core of the story the universal topics of home, identity, and humanity, and the constant negotiation between all of those themes.
